Day
1: PUERTO MONTT / ANCUD
Departure in the morning from Puerto
Montt to visit the Pacific port of Ancud
on Chiloé Island. Once we have
crossed the Chacao Channel and set foot
on the island our first port of call
will be the village of Chacao. We will
then continue on to Ancud. On arrival
we will visit the Museum where we will
find out about the island's history.
After lunch (not included) we will visit
the fort of San Antonio, where the withdrawl
of the Spaniards from American soil
was signed, and Arena Gruesa Beach.
We'll then take the road to Fort Ahui
on the extreme west of Ancud Bay near
the Corona lighthouse. Here you will
have a spectacular panoramic view of
the area and from where you will be
able to glean an insight into the Spanish
strategy in colonial times as they protected
the town by building fortifications
on either side of the bay. Return by
Mar Brava along a track that runs along
beaches on the Pacific coast. On our
return to Ancud we will go up Huaihuén
hill from where we will have a view
of the Pacific Ocean, Ancud, and the
Pudeto and Continente rivers. Arrival
